Tropical Storm Fausto has formed over the Pacific Ocean far from Mexico’s coast and forecasters say it poses no immediate threat to land.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Monday afternoon that Fausto has formed about 1,145 miles (1,840 kilometers) southwest of the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula.

The center of Tropical Storm Fausto is located approximately 1,265 miles southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, according to forecasters. Fausto is an estimated 2,235 miles east-southeast of Hilo and 2,290 miles east-southeast of Kailua-Kona.

Fausto is packing maximum sustained winds around 45 mph. Tropical storm-force winds extend outward approximately 80 miles.

The storm is moving west around 14 mph, however, a turn to the west-northwest is expected during the next 48 hours, according to forecasters.

The storm is expected to continue strengthening during the next 48 hours, forecasters said.

Meanwhile, shower activity associated with a broad trough of low pressure, located several hundred miles southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico, has become less organized during the past 24 hours. Development, if any of the system, should be slow during the coming 48 hours as it moves west-northwest around 10 to 15 mph. After 48 hours, upper-level winds are expected to become less conducive for development.

Forecasters gave the area of low pressure a 10 percent of forming into a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours. They also gave it a 10 percent of forming into a tropical cyclone during the coming five days.
